Course Description More Details
Beyond reading workshop and writing workshop, a balanced literacy framework includes many other critical elements. The participants will explore these elements and develop an understanding that they are not fixed and separate, however, activity in the classroom moves smoothly around them. Each element requires a different level of support from the teacher. Participants will develop an understanding of how to weave these elements into their daily instruction to design a literacy-rich experience for students. Topics presented during this session will include: Interactive Read Aloud, Interactive Vocabulary, Interactive Edit, Word Study Minilessons, Buddy Study System (brief overview), Process Drama, Readers’ Theater, Shared Reading & Writing, Interactive Writing, and Current Events.
