Participants will (a) explain the importance of teaching social-emotional skills; (b) identify strategies to enhance children’s emotional literacy skills and help children learn to control anger and impulse; (c) identify strategies for teaching children problem-solving skills/strategies; (d) identify methods for individualizing emotional literacy instruction; (e) understand the meaning of self-regulation; (f) understand how children and adults react and respond as it relates to various brain states; (g) understand the importance of teaching children to self-regulate; (h) identify strategies for teaching children to self-regulate; (i) identify a variety of friendship skills and specific strategies for teaching them to children; (j) discuss how the environment supports friendship skills, and; (k) create and identify activities to promote friendship in the classroom.
