As schools become a major avenue for supporting and providing mental health services and support for their students, they are encountering a wide range of legal and ethical dilemmas. Sometimes these concerns become a barrier for providing school mental health services. We want our schools to feel prepared to deal with ethical and legal concerns about school-wide mental health practices. Join HHH to hear more about: when is it appropriate to compel/coerce? How can schools do no harm or at least minimize negative side effects? What is the best way for schools to prevent problems? Diagnostic labeling and use of screenings? Concerns about what is causing a student to misbehave and how schools address or not address? Using evidence-based practices? Confidentiality? Student Records? Parental Consent and Cooperation? LGBTQ (student rights, parents rights)? Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion issues?
