GDOE Contractor - Communication Crossroads
With the uncertainty of COVID-19 and the subsequent virtual and “socially distanced” instruction, securing our learners’ engagement is more important than ever. Educators also need re-engagement as feeling disconnected from one another provides a barrier for both learners and educators. This session will provide a discussion of the neurochemistry that we all need to spark the drive for new learning, resilience and hope. When we are together and socially connected, endorphins called dopamine are released in the brain. This “dope” provides a “craving” of wanting more, luring us to pay attention, face challenges and sustain our effort. When this is interrupted, that natural “craving feeling” toward observing others and learning from others can decline. Practical and freely accessible tools from the SEE-KS approach will be shared so that we measure and support our learners’ engagement in virtual and in-person instruction.
