Math Pedagogy
-Explore the 8 Standards for Mathematical Practice in detail.
-Present multiple real-world problem-based lessons including pedagogically modeling how teachers should implement the same lessons in their own classroom.
-Connect real-world problem-based lessons to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) with emphasis on the Standards for Mathematical Practice (SMP).
Discuss and explore common implementation hurdles including:
-Insufficient classroom communication that hinders studentsà ability to mathematically articulate themselves.
-Limited student curiosity resulting in insufficient motivation to persevere through problems.
-Underdeveloped critical thinking skills that prevent students from breaking problems down.
