Face-to-Face and Online Modules
Facilitators: Dana Penland and Allison Funk
The LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) professional learning program is structured as a two-year cohort. Participants engage in a combination of in-person sessions and self-paced online modules to deepen their understanding of the science of reading and its practical application in the classroom.
Each cohort includes 8 in-person training days spread over the two years, divided into four sessions per year. In addition to the in-person days, participants complete online modules along with additional reading assignments and practical application activities.
In-Person Dates:
- Volume 1: 2024-2025 School Year
- Unit 1: December 16th, 2024
- Unit 2: January 31st, 2025
- Unit 3: March 18th, 2025
- Unit 4: May 16th, 2025
- Volume 2: 2025-2026 School Year
- Unit 5: September 17, 2025
- Unit 6: November 12, 2025
- Unit 7: January 21, 2026
- Unit 8: March 18, 2026
This program is designed to build foundational literacy knowledge, including phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, and vocabulary, while equipping teachers to implement evidence-based reading instruction in line with the latest research.
